2025 Congressional Art Competition

The Congressional Art Competition is an annual event that celebrates the creativity of high school students across the country. This competition highlights the incredible talents of young artists in Michigan’s Third Congressional District.

The winning artwork from our district will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year alongside other winning pieces from across the nation. Additionally, it will be featured on the Congressional Art Competition page on House.gov.

Eligibility & Submissions Details

The competition is open to all high school students residing in Michigan’s Third Congressional District. Not sure if you live in the district? Call our office at (616) 451-8383 for assistance.

Students are welcome to submit their artwork individually, or teachers can coordinate and submit artwork on behalf of their students. To help ensure adequate space for the exhibit, teachers, counselors, or school administrators are encouraged to communicate their intent to participate in advance by contacting Bradley.Stek@mail.house.gov.

Rules & Guidelines

Before submitting, please review the official Rules & Guidelines regarding dimensions, accepted mediums, and originality requirements.

Entries must adhere to the following requirements:

Dimensions & Weight

  • Maximum size: 28 inches x 28 inches (including matte and frame)
  • Depth: up to 4 inches
  • Weight: no more than 15 pounds
  • Artwork must be framed or mounted and ready to hang with wire installed. Acetate covers are recommended for pencil, ink, charcoal, pastel, and crayon drawings.

Accepted Mediums

  • Paintings: Oil, acrylic, or watercolor
  • Drawings: Pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, or markers
  • Collages: Must be two-dimensional
  • Prints: Lithographs, silkscreens, or block prints
  • Mixed Media: Using two or more mediums (e.g., pencil and watercolor)
  • Computer-Generated Art
  • Photography

Originality Requirements

  • All entries must be original in concept, design, and execution.
  • Submissions may not copy existing photos, images, paintings, graphics, or advertisements created by someone else.
  • Entries created by scanning and reproducing existing works will not be accepted.

Important Note: Violations of U.S. copyright laws will result in disqualification.
