Congressional App Challenge

Congresswoman Hillary Scholten is excited to announce the launch of the 2025 Congressional App Challenge!
The Congressional App Challenge is the official computer science competition of the U.S. House of Representatives. This competition is for middle or high school student with a knack for programming in any language (C, C++, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, “block code,” etc.). Since launching in 2013, it has grown into the most prestigious prize in student computer science, with over 70,000 participants from all 50 states and five U.S. territories.
This year, Congresswoman Scholten will once again host the challenge for middle and high school students of all coding levels in Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District. The competition runs from May 1 to October 30, and encourages creativity, critical thinking, and a passion for technology—whether students are just beginning to code or already experienced.
We hope you'll consider sharing this opportunity with your students. Across the country, educators have used the App Challenge as extra credit, a summer project, or even integrated it into classroom curriculum.
