Reps. Scholten, Yakym Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Reauthorize Wetland and Waterfowl Education Program for Students

March 12, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Reps. Hillary Scholten (D-MI-03) and Rudy Yakym (R-IN-02) today introduced the bipartisan Junior Duck Stamp Reauthorization Act– legislation to reauthorize the Junior Duck Stamp Program. The Junior Duck Stamp Program is an art and science-based curriculum that teaches wetland and waterfowl conservation to students from kindergarten through high school.

The program is funded by the Junior Duck Stamp Art Competition for children, and 100% of the revenue from sales of the Junior Duck Stamps go toward educational activities for students who participate in the program.

“Anyone who knows me and my family knows that getting outside in nature is core to who we are, and that’s exactly what the Junior Duck Stamp Program is all about – connecting kids to the environment and helping them learn how to preserve it for the future,” said Rep. Scholten. “This legislation will make sure more kids can benefit from the Junior Duck Stamp Program to preserve our environment while unlocking their artistic skills. I want to thank my colleague, Rep. Yakym, for partnering with me on this important effort.”

“Promoting America’s outdoor and sporting heritage to the next generation is something we should encourage at every possible turn. I am happy to work with Congresswoman Scholten in a bipartisan manner to cultivate greater interest in waterfowl conservation by supporting the Junior Duck Stamp Program and a more robust curriculum when it comes to environmental education activities,” said Rep. Yakym.
