WASHINGTON, D.C. - After months of relentless advocacy, U.S. Representative Hillary Scholten announced that dredging will move forward in the Grand Haven Harbor imminently. As of August 22, 2025, a U.S. Army Corps contract has been awarded, and dredging is set to begin this fall. For months, the project’s future was uncertain due to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) new testing requirements necessary to issue dredging permits.
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Representatives Hillary Scholten, Greg Landsman, and Derek Tran, co-chairs of the Lowering Costs Caucus, introduced the Toll of Tariffs Act, new legislation that would require the United States International Trade Commission to conduct a comprehensive study on the inflationary impact of President Trump’s tariffs.
In America, we value hard work. However, too many families are working harder than ever and still falling short. Rent keeps rising. Groceries cost more. An unexpected illness can disrupt every aspect of life. Americans have made it clear that costs are rising and incomes are not keeping up. The Lowering Costs Caucus is committed to restoring the basic promise of this country: that hard work should pay off, and that everyone deserves a fair shot. We’re fighting to make sure that hard-working Americans are not just getting by, but getting ahead.
As the House considers the Senate-passed version of Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill, legislation that would rip healthcare away from millions of Americans and raise costs on consumers, Congresswoman Hillary Scholten (MI03), founding member of the Lowering Costs Caucus, introduced an amendment that would block the bill from going into effect unless the Bureau of Labor Statistics proves that the bill will not increase prices on consumers. The Republican Rules Committee rejected this amendment.

WASHINGTON – After months of ongoing communication with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), and the Governor’s office, U.S. Congresswoman Hillary Scholten (MI03) called on the Governor and EGLE’s director to prevent costly delays in the dredging of Grand Haven’s Inner Harbor—a project critical to West Michigan’s economy.
WASHINGTON – On February 11, U.S. Congresswoman Hillary Scholten (MI03) called on the Trump Administration to reverse its decision to suspend state electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure plans in a letter to Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, alongside her Democratic lawmakers on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Michigan received $110 million in grants for EV charging, and this decision undermines years of work and bipartisan progress in expanding EV infrastructure.
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Congresswoman Hillary Scholten (MI03), Vice Ranking Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Water Resources and Environment (WRE) Subcommittee, filled in for Ranking Member Frederick Wilson in a Subcommittee hearing on the Clean Water Act. In her opening remarks, Rep. Scholten voiced concerns about President Trump’s executive actions that would threaten water infrastructure investments, raise costs, and cut American jobs.
Today, U.S. Congresswoman Hillary Scholten (MI03) introduced the Consistent Legal Expectations and Access to Records (CLEAR) Act, which clarifies that temporary organizations created under 5 USC 3161, like DOGE, are subject to FOIA. Given the breadth of power these organizations wield, they should be subject to the same standard of scrutiny and public information sharing that other agencies are beholden to. As it currently stands, DOGE does not need to comply with FOIA requests from the American public.
