Water Resources Development Legislation Passes House with Rep. Scholten’s Funding for West Michigan’s Harbors
The bipartisan bill includes major wins for West Michigan, including a directive that the Army Corps of Engineers prioritize small harbors--like those in Muskegon and Grand Haven--for projects and funding.
WASHINGTON – Representative Hillary Scholten (MI-03) –a member of the water resources subcommittee helped secure passage of the bipartisan 2024 Water Resources Development Act (WRDA24), which includes critical funding for West Michigan’s harbors.
“I am committed to our Great Lakes, rivers, and streams. I came to Congress to get things done for West Michigan and will always reach across the aisle to make it happen. This bipartisan Water Resources Development Act shores up our critical water infrastructure for generations to come,” said Scholten. “West Michigan’s waterways are one of our greatest resources and most precious treasures. The provisions that I secured will ensure that 13 percent of Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund allocations are directed to the Great Lakes Harbors. By voting in favor of WRDA24, I voted for a better, brighter future for West Michigan.”
WRDA24 will authorize 124 new studies and 12 construction projects to assess and bolster the integrity of our nation’s water resources, including $50 million for community projects that will uplift West Michigan communities. It also requires an annual report outlining the needs of small harbors, like those in West Michigan.
