Rep. Scholten Votes to Raise Pay for Servicemembers
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Hillary Scholten (MI-03) voted in favor of the bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which will raise pay for servicemembers by 5.2% and fund America’s national security priorities.
Specifically, the FY2024 NDAA:
- Supports the 5.2% pay raise proposed in the President’s budget request;
- Expands eligibility for the Basic Needs Allowance (program that provides funds for food, housing, etc. for lowest paid;
- Makes significant investments in military family housing, child development centers, and replacing failing unaccompanied housing (barracks);
- Improves family leave eligibility for federal employees;
- Invests a record $150 million for HBCUs;
- Provides $650 million worth of investments in energy resilience and energy conservation projects.
“I’m thrilled that the House came together in a bipartisan way to fund our national security priorities and give our troops a much deserved 5.2% pay raise, which is the least we can do for these heroes who work day in and day out to protect our country. Our bipartisan NDAA will also support military families by expanding access to childcare and safe base housing, which is a top priority of mine,” said Rep. Scholten. “I look forward to seeing this legislation signed into law as we continue our work to serve our nation’s military members and their families and defend our nation and its values at home and abroad.”
