Rep. Scholten Announces $300K for PFAS Testing and Mitigation at Gerald Ford Intl Airport

September 10, 2024

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Hillary Scholten (MI-03) announced that Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR) received $300,000 from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. This will fund the field testing and measuring of lab-proven innovative destruction technologies to measurably reduce and mitigate the impacts of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) on the aviation sector. Ultimately, this investment will prevent PFAS, or “forever chemicals,” from harming surface and groundwater quality at the airport or within five miles of the airport.

“Gerald Ford International Airport is one of the fastest-growing airports in the country. Ensuring that it has the resources to support every aspect of its operations is key to continuing that upward trajectory,” said Congresswoman Scholten. “These federal dollars will play a key role in the health of our neighbors traveling through GRR and those who live nearby. I am laser-focused on bringing home federal grants just like this one to keep our economic engines like GRR thriving.”

“The Gerald R. Ford International Airport Authority is grateful for the continued support of Congresswoman Scholten and the entire Michigan congressional team,” said Tory Richardson, President and CEO of the Ford International Airport Authority. “The Airport’s ongoing commitment to environmental leadership and stewardship is even more impactful for West Michigan and the aviation industry with the support of federal funding,” said Tory Richardson, Gerald R. Ford International Airport's president and CEO.
