Congresswoman Scholten Selected to Co-lead New Bipartisan Working Group on Artificial Intelligence

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Hillary Scholten (D-MI-03) has joined her colleagues in the Problem Solvers Caucus to co-lead a bipartisan working group focused on developing commonsense guardrails on artificial intelligence to promote accuracy, accountability and integrity. 

“The rapid development of artificial intelligence and the recent, grave threats to our nation’s cybersecurity are warning signs that cannot be ignored,” said Congresswoman Scholten. “I am working legislatively to make sure American people and businesses have the tools they need to understand AI and use it responsibly. I am honored to co-lead this crucial working group to exercise Congress’s regulatory responsibility over the technology and establish much-needed guardrails. While we can and should lead the world in AI development, we also must protect ourselves and hold the companies developing it accountable.” 

The Working Group will also examine how Congress can help workers and small businesses thrive in an AI-enabled economy, curb misuse of emerging technologies that threaten elections or public trust, protect families and consumers from harmful or deceptive applications, and strengthen national security. Congresswoman Scholten will be joined by Reps. Mike Lawler (D-NY-17) and Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ-05), and Blake Moore (R-UT-01) as Vice Leads. Rep. David Joyce (R-OH-14), Susie Lee (D-NV-3), Rob Bresnahan (R-PA-8), Steven Horsford (D-NV-4), Tom Kean (R-NJ-7), Angie Craig (D-MN-2), Maria Salazar (R-FL-27), and Scott Peters (D-CA-52) will all serve as additional Members of the Working Group.

As a member of the House Small Business Committee, Congresswoman Scholten has already introduced and passed legislation to help small businesses learn about AI. HerAI-WISE Act,which passed the House in January 2026, requires the SBA to develop AI-literacy resources on its e-learning platform. Her AI for Main Street Act would expand the role of Small Business Development Centers in helping small businesses evaluate and integrate AI into their operations. Congresswoman Scholten has also introduced theSBA AI Adoption Reporting Act, which would direct the SBA to implement its recent findings on improving its AI use for contracting and research programs.
