Statement by Reps. Kildee, Scholten on New Child Labor Enforcement Action in Michigan

February 9, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. —Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-08) and Congresswoman Hillary Scholten (MI-03), co-chairs of the Child Labor Prevention Task Force, today issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Labor fined a Michigan employer violating federal child labor law:

“The child labor violations in Troy are unacceptable, and we must be doing everything possible to protect Michigan’s kids. While we are pleased to see that the Department of Labor is taking action in this instance, child labor violations continue to go unaddressed throughout our country. Congress must do its part to combat illegal child labor by providing more resources for enforcement and passing new legislation establishing harsher penalties for bad actors.”
