Scholten Statement Ahead of State of the Union Address
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Hillary Scholten (MI-03) released the below statement ahead of the annual State of the Union Address:
“While there are so many issues facing our nation right now, there is one issue that is at the top of my mind as the first woman and mother to represent West Michigan in Congress, and that is reproductive rights. I can't believe I have to say this in 2024 — but whether, when, and HOW a woman becomes a mother is her decision. I’m wearing white this evening along with so many of my women colleagues to show solidarity with the millions of women across this country now living under abortion bans. Anti-choice extremists may be coming for our rights, but what they don't know is that we are coming back even harder — for our freedoms and for our families. Tonight, President Biden should chart a path forward so that family planning decisions belong to women and their doctors in every state across the nation.”
