Rep. Scholten Statement on House Republicans’ Attempt to Politicize America’s Support for Israel
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Hillary Scholten (MI-03) released the below statement after voting against H.R. 8369, House Republicans’ attempt to weaponize the U.S.-Israel relationship for political gain:
“This week, Republicans were too distracted by the former president’s legal trial in New York to put together a good bill on one of the most pressing international issues. Their haste to play partisan games with Israel has produced a backwards bill that would undermine Israel’s long-term security, jeopardize civilian lives, and, most importantly, impede our own ability to ensure the United States’ national security and military readiness.
“The United States’ support for our ally, Israel, is ironclad. This Republican bill does nothing to bring us closer to our goal of dismantling Hamas’ military capabilities so we can establish lasting peace and a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine. I voted no.”
