Rep. Scholten Statement on Bipartisan Tax Bill to Expand Access to Child Tax Credit

January 31, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Rep. Hillary Scholten (MI-03) released the following statement ahead of the vote on H.R. 7024, the bipartisan Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act. The legislation is set to expand access to the Child Tax Credit for 31,000 children in Michigan’s Third District:

“We know how much the Child Tax Credit did to put food on the table and provide necessary items like clothes, diapers, and school supplies for families throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. That’s why I’m voting for the bipartisan Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act today. This legislation will provide long overdue relief to half a million children experiencing poverty across our country, including 31,000 right here in West Michigan. This is a much-needed step forward as we work to make sure every West Michigan child has the chance to succeed. This bill is not perfect, but we've seen what happens when we allow the perfect to be the enemy of the good. I won't stand in the way of much-needed aid to struggling families. I'm voting yes on this bill, and also continuing my work to restore--and expand--a Child Tax Credit.”
