Rep. Scholten Stands in Solidarity with Ukrainian Community at Unity Walk
GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Today, U.S. Congresswoman Hillary Scholten (MI03) attended the Ukrainian Society of Michigan’s Unity Walk for Ukraine, where she emphasized her ongoing support of the Ukrainian-American community in Michigan, marked the upcoming third anniversary of invasion, and vowed to continue fighting for a peaceful resolution that honors Ukrainian independence. The walk brought together community members, leaders, and supporters to stand in solidarity with Ukraine.
“The Ukrainian Society of Michigan has been a pillar of support for Ukrainian refugees and immigrants, offering critical services to help them integrate and thrive,” said Rep. Scholten. “The people of Ukraine are fighting not just for their own freedom, but for the very principles of democracy, sovereignty, and dignity. We must stand firm against Russia’s brutal aggression and our own President’s recent misrepresentations of the truth of this conflict. I stand in solidarity with Ukraine.”
Scholten has been steadfast in her support for democratic allies, including Ukraine. She has championed the 21st Century Peace Through Strength Act that strengthens U.S. military capabilities and alliances to deter threats from Russia, China, and other adversaries to ensure national security and global stability. Scholten also voted in favor of the Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act to provide additional military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine to help it defend against Russia’s invasion.
Founded in 2023, the Ukrainian Society of Michigan is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides legal assistance, mental health support, direct aid, and cultural programming to Ukrainian immigrants and refugees. Through advocacy efforts, humanitarian initiatives, and cultural events, the society fosters strong connections between Michigan and Ukraine while preserving Ukrainian heritage in Michigan.
