Rep. Scholten Helps Introduce Clean Water Act of 2023

October 24, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On the 51st anniversary of the Clean Water Act, Rep. Hillary Scholten (MI-03) joined fellow members of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in introducing the Clean Water Act of 2023 to protect America’s rivers, streams, and wetlands from pollution.

“Everyone deserves access to clean water – it’s really that simple. Our much-needed bill will restore the integrity of the original Clean Water Act so we can protect this critical resource for future generations,” said Rep. Scholten.

This legislation undoes the damage from the Supreme Court Sackett decision, which dramatically limited the scope of federal protections over the nation’s waters and wetlands provided by the original Clean Water Act of 1972.

The bill reinstates the bipartisan federal-state partnership that has protected rivers, streams, and wetlands for over 50 years and establishes a clear, level playing field for businesses and industries to thrive while protecting precious natural resources.
