Rep. Scholten Announces $90k in AmeriCorps Funding to Support West Michigan Organizations
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Hillary Scholten (MI-03) announced $99,360 in funding through AmeriCorps, the agency for service and volunteering, for the development of new AmeriCorps VISTA projects in West Michigan.
“Service is central to who we are as West Michiganders, and every day, the Greater Grand Rapids NAACP and HOAP work to improve the lives of our friends and neighbors,” said Rep. Scholten. “These much-needed funds will be essential to their work to create a better West Michigan for all, especially those who have been ignored for far too long. I look forward to seeing the change this funding will bring to our community.”
The AmeriCorps VISTA program sends corps members to local organizations across the country to work on anti-poverty projects and expand their organization's capacity. Each corps member serves for one year.
The Greater Grand Rapids NAACP will receive $67,770 to support three corps members and Helping Our Adolescents Prosper (HOAP) will receive $22,590 to support one corps member.
