August 21, 2024

Captain Nava, a Comstock Park native and Marine, was killed while serving his country in a tragic helicopter training exercise crash in February of 2024.

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Hillary Scholten introduced a bill to rename the Comstock Park post office after Marine Captain Miguel Justin Nava. Captain Nava died tragically in a helicopter crash while serving in San Diego, California in February of this year.

“We are the home of the free because of the brave, and Captain Nava was just that–brave. He was a decorated Marine, a lifelong Michigander, but most importantly a beloved son, brother, husband, and father. He was a man who lived his life with honor, and by bestowing his name on this post office, we hope to keep his legacy alive in the community that helped raise him,” said Congresswoman Scholten. “I am grateful to have the support of all of my Michigan delegation colleagues in honoring a great man who paid the ultimate price as a defender of our nation’s freedoms.”

Scholten’s bill has been introduced in the House and is awaiting passage.

Captain Nava’s family supports renaming the post office which will provide a standing monument for his beloved wife, Ryann Isabelle Andres, his son Luca, and his parents, brother, grandparents, in-laws, and Comstock Park community.

Congresswoman Hillary Scholten represents Michigan’s Third Congressional district in Congress, which includes portions of Kent, Ottawa, and Muskegon Counties. Earlier this year, Congresswoman Scholten was proud to lead a moment of silence in honor of the 4 marines who were killed in the training exercise and enter a special tribute into the Congressional record in Captain Nava’s honor.
