WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Hillary Scholten (D-MI-03), released the following statement on her vote against the H.R. 5334 Lindsay O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Actof2026.

“President Trump already has every tool at his disposal to sanction Russia and help Ukraine. If he had wanted to sanction Russia, he would have done it already. But instead of doing that, his family is partying with Russian oligarchs. Today’s vote is the sickest of its kind—using the good people of Ukraine as a ploy to give the President even more unchecked authority to enact his reckless tariff regime that is crippling American families. Under this tariff scheme, American families have already paid over $4,200 more on average per year and could pay an additional $8,000 under this bill. Enough is enough. It’s time to hold Russia accountable with meaningful sanctions, and put tariff control back in the hands of Congress where it belongs.”
